Bernadotte & Kylberg and No Picnic designed a solar-powered microbrewery and water purifier launched in January 2020 by Wayout, a local Swedish start-up. The solution allows beverages tobe produced locally in plug-and-play microfactories, the size of a container, with customizable exteriors and serving interfaces. That Africa is an early adopter is no coincidence. Not only are they beautiful, the microbreweries/water purifiers are also environmentally friendly and expected to promote sound, profitable business. Each module has the capacity to provide 70,000 liters of drinking water – and can desalinate sea water too – eliminating up to 250,000 plastic bottles per month, meaning less pollution, less micro-plastics and less carbon emissions. Still or sparkling water and soft drinks can be made instantly, and the brewing process, which takes seven to ten days, starts with a simple click. Wayout received a prestigious 2020 Good Design Award Accolade in the Equipment and facilities for production and manufacturing category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.
